1-0 win v. Hollister
finally, a league victory, and against a tough opponent. We set up for a shutout as 1 point was all that was required to take us up to 4th in the table. Last time against Hollister we could tell within 5 minutes of the start that the girls were not going to perform well. This time it was the opposite - we could tell from the start that Sporting were going to play much better. In fact, this was not a sneaky 1-0 vistory, Sporting dominated this game and won the territorial advantage about 60:40 in both halves. We had multiple breaks through the center of the Hollister defence whereas our opposition were restricted to punts into our penalty box which were cleared by our defence.
The plan for 0-0 was going well until Andrea made another break through the Hollister center backs and hit a speculative shot from the edge of the box which eluded the keeper and rolled into the corner to give Sporting a 1-0 lead. I had to leave at this point to check in TopGun for their final game so coach Mark took over. Apparently the ball hit our post and we had another couple of chances to score and Sporting held out for a deserved victory and 4th place.

so bloomin close
0-0 v. MVLA
we shoulda coulda woulda won. The ball trickled past the keeper and onto the post with less than 5 minutes remaining. MVLA didn't get a chance on us all game with Sophie mopping up any threats as sweeper and for a while it looked like we wouldn't even have a team for this game as a lorry fire on I280 kept some families stuck far from the field. Only Andrea got stuck for the whole game !
Big shout for the girls for this game. 1st, they played their best for a while and really put pressure on MVLA for the whole game. 2nd they did it on the worst field I have seen for a long time. The combination of long grass, mud patches, and big potholes made it almost impossible to walk, never mind run with the ball.
I reckon we can win the final game in Hollister next week if the girls repeat the effort they put in against MVLA

A weekend without losing
Actually it was a lot better than that. 98Gwhite dominated against MTH on saturday and against MVLA on sunday.
0-0 v. MTH
I don't think MTH had a real chance on our goal, but their keeper was certainly busy for the whole game. One save in particular from an Eva rocket shot was quite amazing. We all thought that was a game winner. The team played well... but yet again, the shooting practice drills were not really utilised when we got in front of goal.
1-1 v. MVLA
The girls played even better in this game and were unlucky to concede a goal after going ahead in a league game for the 1st time this season. From the kick off Sporting were attacking down the left side with Allanah pushing crosses into the box from a new starting position at left forward. This forced a series of corners which Kim kicked well into the danger area but no clean cut chances would fall our way. Fay was working hard as center mid in a 4-3-3 formation and the ball was kept on the MVLA side for long periods. Eva broke through the middle and was one v. one with the MVLA keeper but shot straight at her... but then another 1v1 was created : Fay passed the ball between the MVLA center backs with the outside of her foot; Allanah accelerated between them, took the ball to the penalty spot and passed a careful shot into the corner of the net. MVLA were really not threatening us apart from some missed clearances from our defence, but then scored on us... a free kick into our box was repelled by Marina but the ball rolled out perfectly for MVLA to hit a high ball into our net. Soon after Bri had a similar chance from the right at the other end but her shot hit the side netting with the keeper beaten.
The second half was similar with little threat to the Sporting Goal. Bri and Adriana were played through a number of times but couldn't get shots on the MVLA goal
..... same opposition for us next saturday.... a win would send us clear of the bottom of the table.
